Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central focus of artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; up to the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. In the pictorial production of Mauro Emilio Corrias, landscape is the absolute protagonist in an original expressionist/symbolist interpretation. In Corrias's landscape, a tenacious nature adapts to the human presence, represented by residential and industrial structures.
In his work, Mauro Emilio Corrias creates landscapes with fascinating symbolic connotations. For this reason, he relies on a style of painting grounded in the expressive qualities of color, which leads him to a high level of abstraction of phenomenal reality. The composition is resolved through bands of color where light blends with shadow, transfiguring the landscape view. Reality appears as a dreamlike vision, in which even the colors do not reflect nature but take on spiritual connotations. Indeed, the space is always immersed in a dominant hue, generally red, blue, or ochre, as in this case, depending on the emotional state the artist wishes to express. From a strictly formal perspective, Corrias uses a light brushstroke, composed of long, thin lines, which almost dematerializes objects, both natural and human, relegating them to the symbolic dimension of sentiment and memory.
Mauro Emilio Corrias was a painter originally from Milan, born in 1941 and who passed away in 2010. He was featured in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. His work consistently met with critical and public acclaim, and several of his works are held in important collections. Mauro Emilio Corrias's artistic production is distinguished by a symbolist conception of landscapes.
