Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
Amedeo Merello's favorite subjects include flowers and still lifes. His interpretation of this subject is also distinctive, with a meticulous pursuit of naturalistic rendering, yet one that never lacks freshness and immediacy in its representation. The artist captures every detail on the canvas, and his excellent technique allows him to capture the quality of the materials, the elements, and the effects of the light falling on them. It is precisely the impact of light, which generates subtle painterly effects, that distances Merello from cold objectivity and instead leads him to a delicate realism.
Amedeo Merello was a Genoese painter from 1890 to 1979. Equipped with an excellent academic education, he initially focused on religious subjects. However, his true calling was painting from life, which he mastered with extraordinary skill, both in landscapes and still lifes, thanks in part to his post-Impressionist heritage and his extraordinary use of color. He participated in numerous exhibitions, especially in Genoa, Savona, and Turin, but also in various events throughout Italy and abroad.
