Description of the work
Description of the work
The image presents a strong chromatic note and a synthesis of abstraction. These very characteristics reflect the work of artist Michela Savaia, who views the female body as the sum of its form. The very theme of femininity has fascinated artists, writers, and musicians, who have interpreted it in their own way through a masculine lens. Here we see a woman who creates and examines the female body in all its facets, including psychological ones, creating a figure that contains a deeper meaning within. The artist's dialogue over the years with journalist and writer Milena Milani has undoubtedly influenced her vision, as the unconventional journalist addressed important issues in her work, such as the condition of women, love, and relationships with the opposite sex.
Michela Savaia's painting style becomes a gesture of freedom of expression. The woman depicted, free from conventional patterns, liberates herself with her voluptuous body through color and full forms. The space of the canvas seems almost unable to contain the figure, which, filled with wavy lines, seems to deform in their complexity.
Michela Savaia, born in Vallelunga in 1960, began her career as a ceramist, collaborating with the Genoese master Rocco Borella, and subsequently attending the regional course at the Albisola Ceramics School, starting in 1980. Between 1983 and 1989, she became an assistant and then a teacher. Also starting in the 1980s, she collaborated with Danilo Trogu's Albisola factory "Casa dell'Arte." She later became the owner of the Ligurian ceramics company "San Pietro Ceramiche," specializing in ceramic mosaics and wall tiles. She exhibited her work in the "Ceramica/città" exhibition, and the following year she participated in the "La terra del Mediterraneo" exhibition and exhibited at the Bludiprussia Gallery. In the second half of the 1990s, she created several ceramic pieces at the "Fabbrica Casa Museo Giuseppe Mazzotti 1903" in Albisola Capo. In the following years, he opened a small kiln where he created artistic objects and invited other artists, including Paolo Anselmo, to fire their works. His partnership with the writer Milena Milani was also noteworthy.
