Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
In this early work from 1979, Michele Telari's style appears to lean toward hyperrealism. Indeed, one can see the painter's desire to objectively convey to the canvas, with dry lucidity, the sensory data before his eyes. The artist also demonstrates an already extraordinary technique, reminiscent of Flemish painting, in the precision with which he reproduces the various materials and the effects of light falling on them. Despite their objective clarity and while avoiding overly accentuated atmospheric effects, Michele Telari's technique is such that it naturally inserts the objects into the decontextualized space, with a continuity and indefiniteness of contours. The iconic presence of the objects, according to a rational and symmetrical composition, introduces a metaphysical note.
Michele Telari was born in Viterbo in 1979. From an early age, he showed a strong aptitude for drawing. He graduated from the Tuscia Art School in Viterbo in 1997. In 2005, he graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, with a thesis on American Hyperrealism. From 2008 to 2016, he taught and directed his own painting school. In 2016, his work achieved a personal auction record at Bertolami Fine Art (Rome). In 2016 and 2017, he was commissioned by the Chinese government to design and create Tiffany stained glass windows with religious themes for several Catholic churches, together with master glassmaker Marcello Carrer. From 2017 to 2019, he exhibited his paintings at the One Art Space Gallery and the NYA Gallery in New York. In 2019 and 2021, he participated in the prestigious ART Innsbruck. Since the beginning of his career he has participated in numerous exhibitions and Expoart throughout Italy.
