Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The artist Millo Bortoluzzi, in his pictorial production, has always focused on classical and traditional subjects, such as landscapes and still lifes, always imbuing them with his quest for pure painting, which we can also see in this work.
Even in his silkscreen work, the fundamental characteristics of Millo Bortoluzzi's pictorial style persist: the reconstruction of phenomenal reality according to a harmonious ideal of purity. Compared to his oil paintings, however, this artist's graphic work further accentuates the presence of light that pervades all his works. As we can see, the rapid technique and diluted color favor the tendency to dissolve objects in the light, which in this landscape becomes dazzling. Nonetheless, with his customary compositional direction, the painter arranging elements according to a rational and orderly vision of reality. Furthermore, it is noteworthy how, even in a synthetic landscape construction, Bortoluzzi is adept at capturing the presence of birds in flight with great descriptive vivacity.
Millo Bortoluzzi Junior, born in Dolo in 1938 and who passed away in Padua in 2012, was the grandson of the famous landscape artist Millo Bortoluzzi Senior. At a very young age, he participated in the Triveneta Giovanile in Cittadella from 1957 onwards. He participated again in 1959 and, in the same year, was present at the Triveneta Art Biennale, where he also participated in 1963, 1965, and 1967. In 1960, he helped found the "Il Prisma" group. In 1995, he participated in the "Movement for a More Human and Natural Art," a conference and exhibition for the revival of figurative art. In 1996, he was among the artists featured in the exhibition "Artists and Padua in the Fifties" at the Galleria Civica in Padua. In 2004, the Municipality of Padua dedicated an anthological exhibition to him, “Millo Bortoluzzi junior, 50 years of Painting in Padua,” at the Oratory of San Rocco.
