Description of the work
Description of the work
Michele Cascella (Ortona 1892 – Milan 1989) is a painter of flowers and landscapes . His strokes are quick and subtle, and his pleasant views are full of chromatic emphasis. Initially, he created pastel works en plein air, later focusing on oil and working in the studio. The son of an artist, he learned the technique from his father Basilio, together with his brother Tommaso. During the First World War, he was called up for military service, bringing with him the tools of the trade and documenting military life with his brushes (some works are kept at the Museum of the Renaissance). After the war, he settled in Milan and devoted himself to ceramics, lithography , watercolor, and oil painting . With a favorable review by Carlo Carrà , who appreciated the delicacy and primitivism of his painting, he achieved good public success and critical acclaim. From then on, he exhibited in various Italian and foreign cities (London, Paris, Brussels). Today his works are kept in numerous museums in Italy (Milan, Turin, Rome, Pescara, Piacenza...) and abroad (Brussels, Paris, San Marino, London, Santa Clara – California...).
