Flowers, or plants in general, as independent subjects, began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the world of flowers and plants, as they offered an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers and plants were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers and plants also became a way of interpreting reality.

In this work, artist Francesco Monachesi exploits all the most distinctive expressive qualities of the watercolor technique. Indeed, the representation of the sensitive details of nature occurs through a light synthesis that dematerializes the forms, lending them a rendering charged with lyricism. The subjects' structure is created with a thin black line that proceeds in sudden flickers. Color then intervenes, with transparent washes, typical of watercolor, delineating the tree trunks and foliage like ephemeral visions. The space seeks depth in its two-dimensionality, through the strip of land that also seems suspended in an immaterial dimension. The chromatic range exhibits perfect tonal unity.
