Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
In this series of paintings, Edmondo Giuliani seems to begin with phenomenal and naturalistic data: a city view or a glimpse of a landscape. However, the artist employs a profound process of abstraction that leads him to transform each sensory element into pure forms and colors. The world is thus reconstructed according to a neoplastic vision in a complex overlapping of planes. The color is applied in a highly painterly manner, adding a further element of expressiveness to the work.
Edmondo Giuliani was a painter originally from Jesi, where he was born in 1915 and passed away in 2007. Essentially self-taught and a street painter, as he liked to call himself. A very popular figure in his hometown (of which he received honorary citizenship in 2000), he nevertheless exhibited his work in various shows in Italy and abroad. Only late in life did he attend painting courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata.
