Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Monti's paintings are distinguished by a landscape construction that occurs primarily through color. The artist, in fact, constructs the spatial environment solely through the tonal values ​​of color. Depth is perceived through brushstrokes, which, through rapid, patchy application, create different planes in which the objects are distributed. All this makes the work coherent and unified: the entire surface of the painting is homogeneous through atmospheric and pictorial values.

Monti is a landscape painter whose training was most likely influenced by a type of post-impressionist painting that certainly looks to the Macchiaioli, but which shows an accuracy in the recording of light and chromatic vibrations, still typical of Impressionism.
