Moreno Morelli - Bosco

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In this work, we see a less painterly Moreno Morelli, more inclined to a naturalistic rendering of the landscape. His expressionistic, almost surreal pictorial excesses are relegated to the background, which is distinguished by its usual purple and blue hues. The compositional scheme of the natural backdrops of the trees, which open onto the sparse background, returns to the foreground.

Moreno Morelli was a Pisan painter born in 1930 and died in 1989. His artistic output focused primarily on landscapes, genre scenes, and still lifes. His pictorial style, highly synthetic and based on the application of dense, thick colors, shows a strong Post-Impressionist influence.
