Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Murat's landscape is essentially based on a figurative language that references phenomenal reality. However, we can note how the substantial nature of the composition introduces a certain surrealist streak. First, in the construction of an illusory space that appears not to respect the rules of perspective, and then, more generally, in a juxtaposition of elements that seems not to be consistent with a naturalistic representation. All this creates a certain sense of alienation and magical suspense. Even the color does not fully reflect reality, relying on more emotional and spiritual tones.

Murat has developed his own conception of landscape painting, characterized by a certain inspiration from surrealist aesthetics and a magical, suspended atmosphere. Formally, he stands out for his ability to modulate his style from more cursive and painterly layers to a compact and objective manner, even within the same work.
