Description of the work
Description of the work
Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to capture their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation.
The portrait was composed with great technical and compositional verve. The subject is captured in a complex twist that makes him lively and mobile. Nanda Rago's language is essentially realist: the mountaineer is depicted as he is, without any ideological filters. This is also thanks to the painter's remarkable technique, which allows her to capture the sitter's facial features with detailed precision. Furthermore, all this is achieved in a single stroke that, while maintaining the description intact, is characterized by great freshness and immediacy of execution.
Nanda Rago trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and holds a degree in Biological Sciences. After completing approximately 120 works, she had to temporarily suspend her work for family reasons. She resumed painting in 2005. Among her best-known works is "Stanza dei Cavalli" (Horse Room) at the Alexander Museum Palace Hotel in Pesaro. In 2007, she held a solo exhibition at the Galleria di Artecultura in Milan. In 2007, she participated in an exhibition at the Florence Biennale in the Salone Da Basso. In 2012, she was featured in an exhibition at the Chianciano Terme museum.
