Description of the work
Description of the work
The work we admire depicts a winter landscape. This landscape, with snow covering the fields, features two figures walking in the foreground, sheltering under umbrellas. In the background are two solitary houses, almost juxtaposed to the two figures. The scene exudes a sense of loneliness, as the two people appear to be walking in opposite directions, yet at the same time never seem to meet, each going their separate ways.
Natale Patrizi's style is distinguished by broad, expressive brushstrokes. The perspective is reversed and non-three-dimensional, and the distant fields rise to the top of the painting. In this case, the painter chooses light colors combined with cool tones that convey the feeling of winter's chill. Overall, the figuration is essential; a few brushstrokes are sufficient to convey the painter's vision. Vast monochrome fields juxtapose with black outlines of the figures and houses, reminding us of the impact of stained-glass windows where unshaded monochrome fields are connected by lead ties that create the design.
Natale Roberto Patrizi, aka Agrà, was born in Mondolfo in the Marche region, in 1941. At about twenty years old, he moved to Florence to learn the art of fresco painting, in which he later specialized. In addition to this technique, he also practiced etching, glass, ceramics, egg tempera, and graffito. Between 1981 and 1983, he created "Windows," paintings using frames salvaged from old farmhouses, for which he received several awards. From 1986 to 1990, together with Mario Giacomelli and Fide, he carried out several artistic interventions in open spaces in the Marche hinterland.
The artist's poetics narrates nature and the countryside through a highly personal sensitivity in contact with Franciscan spirituality, which helps him interpret the plant and animal world as part of a project of salvation.
His career has been marked by a series of solo and group exhibitions throughout Italy and abroad. His works are currently held in public and private collections as well as prestigious museums.
