Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject matter and method of representation can be compared to the Naïve movement. The Naïve artist is by definition self-taught, someone who hasn't attended an art school but has found inspiration within themselves. Stylistically, this translates into figurative painting that offers a simplified interpretation of reality, with infantile and unconsciously primitivist overtones. However, even the Naïve artist, in his spontaneity, possesses a self-awareness that leads him to develop a very specific aesthetic language, distinguishing it from amateurism.
On a more strictly formal level, the artist Nerone can truly be considered an example of a naïve conception of painting. His simplification of reality, in fact, embodies several elements of creativity, discernible in the complexity of his drawing and his chromatic exploration. The subjects do have a childlike quality, but the linear elaboration that constructs them exalts the forms and volumes, which take on almost caricatural qualities. The color, too, is excessive, at times anti-naturalistic, but always selected in a manner consistent with the overall concept of the work.
Nerone is the pseudonym of Sergio Terzi, an artist born in 1939 in Villarotta di Luzzara. He was also a sculptor, poet, and musician. Self-taught, he began painting around 1969. His inspiration was Antonio Ligabue, for whom he was chauffeur for several years. Nerone displays an artistic potential very similar to his master, offering a simplified and naive interpretation of reality characterized by great expressive potential.
