Description of the work
Description of the work
Interior views are quite common among the subjects of artworks. Consider, for example, the many paintings depicting the artist's studio, such as Courbet's famous "Atelier." In other cases, painters have drawn inspiration from the intimate spaces of their lives, a prime example being Van Gogh's "The Room." But much more often, for an artist, portraying an interior takes on a symbolic meaning, especially when it appears emptied of human presence and the objects become images of memory.
Nicola Jannelli's paintings always straddle the line between the phenomenal reality (what we can experience through our senses) and the noumenal reality (what we can explore through our intellect) of the object. Indeed, his artistic structure is extremely solid, anchored to the perceptible world before his eyes. However, his interpretation of still lifes and interior views demonstrates that his perception of the object, and especially of the object in space, transcends the phenomenon. Indeed, the representation is conducted along multiple directional lines, according to a non-univocal perspective. In this way, the structures of things are explored more deeply, breaking them down within the complex space created by the artist. Nicola Jannelli's investigative process continues through his pictorial layering, emphasizing areas of volume and highlighting the object's relationships with the space in which it interacts. Furthermore, Jannelli employs an elaborate pictorial style that imbues the objects with existential vibrations. As for the palette, the Sicilian painter typically uses a range of bright, light-filled colors.
Nicola Jannelli was born in Cariati and lived and worked in Rome. A painter with a highly personal and therefore unmistakable style, with expressionist lines, brushstrokes, and tones, he interpreted and depicted the places and people of his native Cariati with passion and deep love. Among his many works, many of which have been exhibited in important national and international exhibitions, we recall the canvases and murals that adorn the churches and several private spaces of Mirto.
