Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The painter aims for a perfect naturalistic rendering of the landscape he wishes to depict. First, he creates a perfect spatial box, still based on orthogonal perspective. However, the perspective grid is softened through a painterly style that gently blurs the objects and blends them into the atmosphere. The entire composition is bathed in warm sunlight that envelops the entire scene and helps to define the space.

Nicolas is an academically trained painter who demonstrates an excellent technique in the naturalistic rendering of phenomenal reality. His aesthetic is based on mimesis, or the imitation of nature, and leaves little room for subjectivism in the development of his formal language.
