The Niki Berlinguer tapestry, created by the eponymous artist based on a design by Umberto Mastroianni, features an abstract composition in which contrasting colors create a dynamic visual structure. The neutral, warm ochre background brings out the more intense black, red, and green tones, adding depth to the work. Niki Berlinguer, born Corinna Adelaide Augusta Fidelia, who in 1950 married Mario Berlinguer, a widower and father of Enrico, for her second marriage, was called “the great lady of tapestries,” which she created using the ancient petit point technique, modeled after works, forms, and figures created by other artists such as Carlo Levi, Corrado Cagli, Renato Guttuso, and Giuseppe Santomaso.
