The New Gospel of Art, published by Edizioni San Paolo and distributed exclusively by SAIE, is a completely new work and replaces the previous Gospel of Art, now out of print. The work presents the Four Gospels in the new version of the Italian Episcopal Conference, the same text we hear in the proclamation of the Word in liturgical celebrations, both weekdays and holidays. For this reason, the volume includes a special section entitled "The Four Gospels in the Holiday Lectionary," which includes quotations from the Gospel passages for all Sundays and solemnities of the liturgical year for both the Roman and Ambrosian Rites. The beauty of this work is undoubtedly due to its technical aspects:

• – the precious manufacturing,
• – six-color printing,
• – the skivertex binding,
• – the golden edge of the pages…

In particular, it is the iconography that highlights its uniqueness and value. The work is illustrated with 98 modern, full-page icons from four different schools. Modernity, while offering new inspiration, does not abandon fidelity to the pictorial canons of the ancient icons of the Christian East, so much so that we could speak of an "Ecumenical Gospel of Art." But there are three factors that distinguish this Centenary edition from the basic edition and make it more valuable:

• – the introductory piccolo in reference to the Centenary of San Paolo

The cover

It is enriched by five bas-reliefs struck in polished brass. They depict:

• – in the central oval the glorious Christ the Teacher and Judge (detail of the gold antependium of Otto II, ca. 1020, Aachen / Aachen, Cathedral Treasury),
• – In the corners, four images recall important references that define the identity, spirituality, and mission of San Paolo. Clockwise from top left: Saint Paul and the Temple dedicated to him in Alba, birthplace of the Pauline Family; Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and the Basilica dedicated to her in Rome; and Blessed Father Giacomo Alberione, founder of the Pauline Family, with the book of the Word of God and the Eucharist. Finally, a reference to the world of mass communication that characterizes the specific mission of the Paulines.

Product packaging

Until now, luxury edition art volumes were packaged and housed in a velvet box, usually red. Starting with this edition of the Nuovo Vangelo d'Arte, luxury edition, the decision was made to switch to an elegantly lined drawer-shaped container with a polished brass knob. Instead of the usual "box," the precious volume is now contained, wrapped in a delicate cloth, in a case that transforms into a convenient lectern when needed. This allows the Gospel to be displayed at home or in church, perhaps displaying the icon in reference to a feast day according to the liturgical calendar.
