Description of the work
Description of the work
Izumi is a Japanese artist with close ties to Italy, starting from her studies at Brera, where she contributed to two editions (1985 and '86), after winning a sculpture scholarship from our Government in 1977.
Freed from the encumbrances and plasticity inherent in classical materials, Izumi has dedicated herself exclusively to exploring refractions and transparencies, making her an indispensable point of reference for reflections on the role of glass in contemporary minor sculpture in Italy. Her works do not concern themselves with defining themselves in a single identity or spatiality, but possess multiple ones, as in a work that is simultaneously unfinished and overly finished. They are capable of redefining and repositioning themselves with every change in brightness or exposure, but when they do so, they take on shifting yet cyclical appearances, with the precision and accuracy of an impeccable portrayal of luminous reality. Sometimes they are imbued with complex architectures, other times with simple abstract geometric forms, victims or triumphs of the designer who knows how to reinvent or destroy them with the great power of spotlights.
