Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Omero Solaro's style follows the tradition of Romantic and poetic Lombard landscape painting. The compositional structure of the work is based on a perception that pursues an objective, naturalistic rendering of the view. The composition always opens on a rarefied, almost fleeting portion of landscape. Distant objects fade into the background according to a perfect aerial perspective. In short, there is a harmonious relationship between all parts of the work, which attributes Omero Solaro's pictorial language to a classicist spirit. However, the purity of form is tempered by the artist's lyrical sentiment, which expresses itself formally through accentuated painterly and atmospheric effects. This can also be seen in the chromatic palette, which casts a soft yet unifying light.
Born in Legnano in March 1909, Solaro studied at the Brera Academy under the guidance of masters Alcinati, Cantinotti, Ornati, and Brambilla. After living in various places in Lombardy and Piedmont, immediately after the war he moved to Valsabbia: first to Vestone and then, in 1950, to Lavenone. In the valley, he befriended the Brescian poets Angelo Albricci and Bernardino Roberti and spent over twenty years there. In 1967, he left Lavenone for Verona, where he died in May 1977. True to the canon of gentle, romantic painting incorporating scenes of rural life, Solaro held solo exhibitions in Brescia, Bolzano, Novara, Arona, and Verona.
