Description of the work
Description of the work
Orfeo Tamburi , Italian designer, painter, journalist, was born in Jesi in 1910 where he graduated from the Technical Institute in 1926. Thanks to a scholarship, he moved to Rome in 1928 to enroll at the Liceo Artistico in Via Ripetta and later at the Academy of Fine Arts where he met Ennio Flaiano and Vincenzo Cardarelli. In 1932 he took his first steps as a painter by exhibiting some works at the III Sindacale Laziale, the following year at the I National Exhibition of the Artists' Union of Florence, then he exhibited at the Bragaglia Fuori Commercio, After a stay in Paris where, visiting museums and galleries, he discovered the painting of Cézanne , Orfeo Tamburi returned to Rome in 1935, took part in the II Quadriennale and dedicated himself above all to landscapes, encouraging his fresh vein of drawing. In 1936 he was commissioned to create a fresco in the Palazzo dell'Anagrafe entitled Roman Carnival, while he continued to produce and exhibit, in 1938 at the III Quadriennale, at the II Milanese "Corrente" Exhibition, and, in January 1940, with the Roman group of Guttuso, Guzzi, Montanarini, Ziveri, Fazzini at the Galleria di Roma in a significant exhibition of the new "realist" climate. In the 1940s, Orfeo Tamburi designed costume designs and sets for a revival of Feo Belcari's "The Sacred Play of Abraham and Isaac." He was commissioned to create six panels for the EUR atrium, depicting the History of Theater from its Origins to Melodrama. Only the cartoons were produced for these panels. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale, held a solo show at the Galleria Barbaroux in Milan, and Gino Severini dedicated a small monograph to him.
