Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The work is a clear example of an expressionist landscape. Reality is interpreted in an extremely synthetic manner, with a remarkable reduction. The surface is completely two-dimensional, with no concessions to spatial depth. The landscape is constructed through a juxtaposition of fields of color. The colors themselves are not entirely true to reality, lending themselves to a more spiritual than naturalistic interpretation. The work reflects the rationality and taste for balanced compositional lines typical of Orfeo Tamburi.
Orfeo Tamburi was a painter born in Jesi in 1910 and died in Paris in 1994. He trained in the French capital and participated in the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial. The undisputed protagonist of his work is the urban landscape, which he interprets with a textured brushstroke that gives consistency to objects, making his compositions a play of interlocking planes and volumes in perspective.
