Otello Fabri - Umbrian Landscape

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

This work is particularly interesting because it is unusual compared to Otello Fabri's more characteristic work. In this case, his artistic language reveals a profound post-Impressionist influence. The landscape is depicted in a highly rational manner, with a harmonious distribution of chromatic zones on different planes. Furthermore, the application of color is dense and textured.

Otello Fabri was born in Terni in 1919 and passed away in 2001. His career began with the creation of architectural moldings in Terni and Rome. In the 1950s, he began painting in oils and watercolors, primarily Umbrian landscapes, soon to be joined by the recurring female nudes. In the 1970s, he specialized in graphic design in Venice. He has held exhibitions in Italy, the United States, South Africa, France, Switzerland, Greece, England, and Croatia, and his works are included in art collections worldwide.
