Description of the work
Description of the work
Mountain landscapes have inspired numerous artists throughout history, giving rise to iconic works that celebrate the grandeur and majesty of mountain peaks. The mountain environment brings out delicate chromatic and symbolic relationships that explore the nuances of a highly detailed reality, with natural and realistic colors. The perspective glimpse depicted makes the mountain the protagonist of the work. Over the centuries, this theme has been depicted to explore its beauty and grandeur. Each historical period has contributed its own interpretation of the landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; up to the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Artist Ottorino Campagnari extends his field of vision toward a full and luminous scene, in which the mountain becomes the primary theme. The artist displays a steady and distinct hand in depicting the most natural and realistic aspect of the subject. The depth of perspective gives the composition balance and proportion. In addition to the strong draughtsmanship, one can also see his mastery in shaping forms through color and light. The tones become clear and truthful, followed by a light that floods the entire scene.
Ottorino Campagnari was a landscape artist born in Mestre in 1910. His favorite subjects in painting were the mountains and storm surges of the Ligurian coast. He participated in numerous national exhibitions, and from 1940 onwards he exhibited regularly at the National Art Quadrennials of the Promotrice Belle Arti in Turin, at the Artistico Culturale Gazzetta del Popolo, and at the Circolo degli Artisti in Turin. He also exhibited in numerous art galleries in Italy and abroad. He died in Turin in 1987.
