Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Pierpaolo Melle is a master at capturing everyday life and, more generally, glimpses of a working-class Italy, made up of small seaside villages and countryside. He does so with a traditional approach that has led him to embrace a simple yet effective realism, featuring solitary places filled with light. In this painting, one can see how the defining characteristic of Melle's landscapes is an intense use of white. The white of the light, reflecting off the walls of the houses, predominates in the composition, almost transfiguring reality. This allows the artist to convey the warmth of his homeland through the use of colors full of luminous vibrations.
Artist Pierpaolo Melle is a master of realism. An authentic sense of everyday life prevails in his works. However, his concrete realism, composed of glimpses of small villages, is transfigured into a profound lyricism, achieved through the vibrant action of light.
