THE WORK HAS A DEDICATION MADE TO THE OWNER ON THE BACK Montanari's style is essentially figurative, but tends to transcend naturalism and embrace expressionistic simplification. This urban landscape, too, is composed according to the rules of a perfect style. The figure is well-defined in volume and coherently inserted into its decontextualized space. The artist demonstrates an excellent graphic technique in constructing the subject with fine hatching. Roberto Montanari (Ravenna 1937 – Vicenza 2017) trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna and was a disciple of Salvador Dalí. He exhibited his work in over 250 shows and in the 1970s participated in group exhibitions with Dalí and Picasso. His most recurring subject is the bull, always depicted in scenes enlivened by warm sunlight, hence the nickname "the bull painter."
