Marco Paniello - Nude

The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.

In this painting, Marco Paniello demonstrates, as always, his remarkable ability to render his subjects naturally. The female figure is depicted with vivid plasticity, in a highly objective style. The light strikes the subject from the left, highlighting the strong plasticity of her form. The shoulder, shoulder blade, and hip in particular emanate an opalescent glow, demonstrating the exquisite consistency of Paniello's plasticity. At the same time, however, the figure is softly shaded and therefore alive: this can be seen in the black shading that runs across the entire subject from the right shoulder to the buttock. The female figure is immersed in a decontextualized background of a fluorescent gray, yet precisely because of the beam of light that enhances her volumes, she creates her own space and depth.

Marco Paniello was a painter born in Verona in 1943 and died in Tenerife in 2005. His favorite subjects are female nudes, clowns, and reproductions of famous artists. Marco Paniello always interprets his works with a soft naturalism, a skill he also possesses thanks to his technical prowess.
