Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s, encompassing all fields of artistic research. In terms of the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality.
Artist Paolo Brambilla draws inspiration from a surrealist aesthetic, drawing on the historical avant-garde. This work is the result of a blend of free associations that creates imaginary figures and situations. Formally, Brambilla, however, seems to follow his own path, departing from the surrealist tradition, depicting figures in a more synthetic and abstract manner, with an expressionist urgency.
Paolo Brambilla is an artist born in Bologna in 1936. His artistic production tends to be surreal, but is based on the expressive potential of pictorial application.
