Description of the work
Description of the work
Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata, he made his debut in 1991 with a personal exhibition at the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino . In 1992 the philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer [1] wrote a text about his work. In 2004 he was included in the Zanichelli Encyclopedia of Art, and in 2008 in the Top 100 of Flash Art on young Italian art [2] . In 2011 he was invited to the 54th International Art Biennale in Venice [3] . In 2013 he made his first feature film "Il sole dei cattivi" which won the prize for best film at the Film Festival Popoli e Religioni in Terni.
In 2011 he participated in the 54th Venice International Art Biennale, where he presented the first performance of the Rebellio Patroni series, in which Elio, “ Stefano Belisari ” of Elio e le Storie Tese, dressed as Saint Francis and challenged visitors on the meaning of art and the works on display. This performance was followed by others featuring the patron saints of some of Italy's major cities, engaging with current issues with irony. In Naples, at the Madre Museum in 2011, Giobbe Covatta played Saint Gennaro, who collects garbage in an evocative procession through the city streets, and in 2012, during his solo exhibition at the Palazzo Reale in Milan , in front of the Duomo, Luca Mangoni played Saint Ambrose. The last performance took place in Bari in 2014, during his solo exhibition at the Teatro Margherita , with Saint Nicholas played by YouTube star Alessio Giannone, aka Pinuccio. His work on patron saints, developed in a multifaceted manner through paintings, installations, and performances, blends diverse languages, merging the composure of religious iconography with the irreverent communication of the figures involved, who have always forged a strong relationship with the public, witnesses and co-protagonists of the events in the cities. This propensity for blending languages has always characterized the work of Paolo Consorti, recognized as one of the first artists to integrate digital technologies with painting. Since the early 1990s, he has exhibited in solo shows in Rome, Melbourne, Berlin, Amsterdam, Milan, Minneapolis, Hamburg, New York, Marshall, and Tokyo, in public spaces and private galleries. He has participated in the First Prague Biennale , the First Moscow Biennial for Young Art, twice in the National Art Quadrennial , and has exhibited at the China Olympics and the World Olimpic Fine Arts Museum in Beijing.
In 2009 he created a video nativity scene for the Municipality of Assisi , a large electronic fresco on the theme of the nativity projected on the public square [4] . In 2010 he created some video clips for the Italian edition of XFactor [5] . In 2011 he created Rebellio Patroni, a multifaceted and in progress work which consists of a series of performances in which the patron saints of Italian cities intervene with paradoxical actions in the present. Piero Melograni wrote about this project by Consorti, underlining a surreal form of commitment in which art confronts reality through the use of the iconography of the saints. In 2013 he made his first feature film "Il sole dei cattivi", shot in Grottammare and Larino during the sacred representations of the living nativity scene and the living passion. The protagonists are Luca Lionello and Nino Frassica , with the participation of Nichi Vendola and Stefano Belisari. The music is by Sergio Cammariere , Elio e le storie tese and Gerardo Casiello. In 2014 he filmed "Figli di Maam" at the Maam Museum in Rome, with Luca Lionello, Alessandro Haber , Federico Rosati and Franco Nero , with the participation of Michelangelo Pistoletto .
He is currently working on his new film " Havana Kyrie " which will be shot between Pesaro and Cuba and which will star Franco Nero
