Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
Paolo Fiorentino is a painter whose artistic output displays a marked interest in urban landscapes, buildings, and architecture. This interest is expressed through a celebration of technique, purity of line, and design. These are the elements that stand out in his depiction: pure geometry and forms, exalted in a completely decontextualized space, to the point of verging on true abstraction. Yet the atmosphere, suspended in time, has a metaphysical quality. Paolo Fiorentino seems to seek to unite in his aesthetic conception all the rationalism inherent in the Italian pictorial tradition, from the 15th century to the architecture of the Fascist period, all the way to De Chirico.
Paolo Fiorentino was born in Rome in 1965, where he still lives and works. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions not only in Italy but also in various countries (France, Portugal, Switzerland, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Australia, Croatia, Serbia, and other parts of Eastern Europe). In 1996, he participated in the Rome Quadrennial. Also in 1999, he was invited to the exhibition "La Pittura Ritrovata" (The Rediscovered Painting) at the Museo del Risorgimento, Complesso del Vittoriano in Rome. He participated in Extra 50, an event part of the 50th Venice Biennale.
