The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.

The work is part of a creative trend by artist Paolo Valle, combining an informal language with a distinctive flair for decoration, inspired by his numerous travels to the East. Thus, the dense, dark pictorial apparatus, which extends shapelessly within its hermetic enclosure, opens a crack, revealing an elegant series of leaves and foliage beneath.

Paolo Valle was born in Venice in 1948. His education began with a diploma in Graphic Arts, followed by a course taught by Oskar Kokoschka. His numerous travels to the East also played a key role in shaping Paolo Valle's artistic language. He has taught lithography, chalcography, and silkscreen printing in Venice and Rome. He has exhibited his work in countries such as Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Chile, South Africa, and the former Yugoslavia.
