A WORK FROM THE "PAPESSE" SERIES IS PRESENT AT THE TAROT MUSEUM IN RIOLA DI VERGATO (BO)
CIT. Contemporary Tarot
The interest that has developed around tarot cards since the 19th century has prompted numerous contemporary artists to reinterpret the cards. Among the Italians are Gentilini, Guttuso, Giancarlo Canell, Domenico Balbi, Baj, Dulbecco, Luzzati, Pinter, Osvaldo Meneguzz, and Toppi. Among non-Italian artists, Dali and Niki de Saint Phalle, creator of the Tarot Garden in Garavicchio, near Capalbio, stand out.
Numerous illustrators have created new decks, sometimes in collaboration with historians and writers. For example, Dario Fo's Tarot was painted by his son Jacopo; Michele Marzulli conceived, designed, and created Masonic Tarot; while writer Giordano Berti created the scripts for ten decks created by various illustrators. Furthermore, in the 1990s, Swiss artist Hans Ruedi Giger designed and created an arcana deck using the airbrush technique, inspired by the occult themes and iconography of his biomechanical paintings.
In the summer of 1990, the show "Il castello di carte - mistero de tarocchi" (The Castle of Cards - The Tarot Mystery), written by Gian Piero Alloisio and Tonino Conte, who also directed it, was performed at Forte Sperone (Genoa). In this show, each actor represents one of the major arcana on a separate stage. The text of the show was published in 2017 under the title "Il mistero dei Tarocchi" (The Tarot Mystery), with illustrations by Beppe Giacobbe.
In Riola, in the province of Bologna, a Tarot Museum has been established for some time with a large collection of cards and paintings dedicated to the theme of the Tarot.
