Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," meaning to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images. Even in his graphic works, abstract and geometric in nature, Pascal's research revolves around so-called "nuclear painting," the desire of a group of artists to reconstruct, on the medium of their artwork, a nuclear landscape. Thus, drawing on the poetics of spatialism regarding the perception of energies in the atmosphere, nuclear artists like Sergio Dangelo focused their attention on the existence and movement of atomic particles.
In this silkscreen, exploiting the unique characteristics of the graphic medium, Pascal's "nuclearism" takes on a distinctly mechanomorphic form. Indeed, the composition draws on principles of geometric abstraction, and the nuclear landscape is constructed through the absoluteness of pure line and the perfect circle. These two elements combine in this silkscreen to realize Pascal's signature investigation of the microscopic and infinitesimal elements that underlie existence. Thus, the composition unfolds through a series of concentric movements and identifications of energy flows.
The artist Pascal stands out for his highly experimental pictorial production. His poetics move between abstraction and informal art, but much of his work draws on the "Nuclear Painting" movement.
