Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
Pasquale Picazio is a painter renowned for his technical prowess in achieving a completely naturalistic and technically perfect rendering. The models' anatomy is depicted in minute detail, but it is above all these details that determine the great truthfulness and naturalness of the bodies: the softness of the skin almost seems to suggest the tactile effect of the skin; the interaction of the hair with the surrounding space, which blends harmoniously with the atmosphere; the balance of light, through which the bodies blend naturally with the atmosphere.
Pasquale Picazio was born in Caserta in 1947. His career began at fifteen, when he began creating small landscapes on paper, which were purchased by an English shipowner. He trained in Naples and later moved to Rome, where he still lives. In the capital, he works in his studio and manages, together with other colleagues, the Margutta 55 gallery.
