Description of the work
Description of the work
The work, which opens with the reproduction of the homilies of the Holy Father for
the announcement and beginning of the Pauline Year, and of the Decree granting the
Indulgences, is accompanied by a message from the Archpriest of the Basilica of
St. Paul Outside the Walls until the end of the Pauline Year, Cardinal Andrea
Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, who underlines how Paolo was “the first
truly great communicator of the history of Christianity", whose "evocative power
It is as penetrating as a sword. In this age of communication and
globalization, there is a real need for Him." The philosopher Vincenzo Cappelletti
traces in the Introduction a theoretical profile of Pauline thought which is found in
speech on the Areopagus a fundamental passage from ancient wisdom
to the affirmation of the God “logos” and of the creator God, a discourse that is
“a clear assertion of the profound connection between the God-Man and the truth, between
mystery and thought”. The volume includes the “Acts of the Apostles” and the Corpus
of the Pauline Letters in the new CEI translation. The epistles are
each accompanied by a thematic essay by Monsignor Fortunato
Frezza, biblical scholar, Under-Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, who of the new
translation of the sacred texts was co-authored. And then, an extraordinary iconographic set, a real plan for reading the life and thought of the
“Apostle of the Gentiles”, parallel to the critical one. Alessandro Romano, sculptor,
signs 25 highly evocative black and white and colour plates, along which
the story of the Apostle, witness of the risen Christ, unfolds, from the dramatic
from the stoning of Stephen to the lightning strike on the road to Damascus, to the years of
meditation in Tarsus, up to preaching and martyrdom. On the cover, a
bronze bas-relief tells the event in an emotionally compelling way
central to Paolo's eventful life. The Italian edition is 500 copies.
copies, to which will be added the limited edition in English.
