Description of the work
Description of the work
This series of works offers a fascinating sampling of artist Gastone Peirano's favorite subjects. The female figure is undoubtedly central to his work, depicted in various situations and facets, including symbolist ones. Among the most recurring themes in Peirano's oeuvre is undoubtedly "motherhood." Genre scenes, inspired by candid and sincere everyday life, are also present. This collection also features the ballerina, a subject that boasts an illustrious tradition from Degas onward.
Gastone Peirano's pictorial language rests on solid foundations recognizable in each of his works. First and foremost, an objective conception of painting leads the artist to depict phenomenal reality on canvas as it is perceived by his senses, without subjective filters. This approach is supported by an excellent painting technique that allows Peirano to achieve a perfectly naturalistic rendering. Physiognomic and anatomical perfection is pursued in every detail through a light application of color that respects the softness of the skin and the quality of the fabrics. As further support, the artist adds a balanced dose of incident light, which, striking the subjects, creates a natural play of shadows. Typical of Gastone Peirano is certainly his chromaticism, composed of warm, golden hues that further enhance the effects of light.
Gastone Peirano was born in Mapello in 1926 into a family of painters. He trained at the Cimabue Academy in Milan and initially worked as a graphic designer. In the late 1960s, he decided to dedicate himself exclusively to his profession as a painter and, after moving to Rome, began a fruitful collaboration with the Tartaglia Gallery. He has received numerous critical and public acclaim in Italy and abroad. In 2005, during the six-month Universal Exposition in Aichi, Japan, his works were exhibited, earning particular praise from the Italian diplomatic authority responsible for the event.
