Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Landscape, in the works of the artist Persano, is distinguished by a realistic conception of pictorial technique that seeks to directly convey sensory data into the work, without idealization.
As we can see in this glimpse of the city of Livorno, the artist Persano has a genuinely realistic vision of painting. His aim is to convey reality directly and immediately into his work. Formally, this means accurately conveying sensory information in an accurate reproduction of the view. Yet, at the same time, the artist is concerned with creating a vibrant and dynamic rendering. For this reason, his pictorial approach is impressionistic, based on the expressive qualities of color, which prevail over the drawn structure. The rendering, therefore, is rapid, achieved through quick hatching that characterizes the objects with chromatic and luminous vibrations. Thanks to the combination of these factors, the artist manages to give us a sincere representation of reality that also takes into account the complexity of the human gaze and perception.
The artist Persano stands out for his realist conception of painting, which he integrates with an immediate, impressionistic rendering of sensory detail. During his development, he was undoubtedly influenced by the Labronico Group, which, in turn, drew on the Post-Impressionist and Macchiaioli movements. However, in Persano's work, the realistic rendering of landscape prevails over the cursive and synthetic, impressionistic style.
