Description of the work
Description of the work
The female nude occupies an important place in the painter's artistic production. The study of the female body, with an expressive form that emphasizes emotion, is a less realistic representation. The woman's sensuality is conveyed through his pictorial gesture and color. For him, the female body is a symbol of creation, of life.
His painting style draws on the avant-garde, post-cubist, expressionist, and informal influences, while maintaining his work's distinctive character. He doesn't eliminate the figurative, but deconstructs it, creating emotions through color. His brushstrokes are rapid, conveying a sense of movement. The color tones are often contrasting.
Philippe Artias was born in Paris in 1912 and died in 2002. He was a painter very close to Pablo Picasso, who encouraged him to pursue a personal vision of art, seeking the intersection of innovation and tradition. Artias was obviously inspired by Picasso, but he also managed to find his own art, his own way of distinguishing himself. He continued to paint until the last years of his life, dedicating himself to perfecting his language and artistic research.
