Gennaro Picinni, known as the "Flemish of Puglia" (Bari, July 20, 1933), was a contemporary Italian painter, nationally acclaimed for his distinctive style. His artistic career began in 1950, debuting with abstract works that reflected Symbolist and Cubist influences. In the mid-1950s, Picinni abandoned abstraction and joined the "Painters of the Naviglio" in Milan, a group that included artists such as Crippa, Fontana, and Sottsass. Renowned for his use of pure colors and a Flemish-inspired graphic sensibility, he was nicknamed the "Flemish of Puglia." Picinni often explored religious themes, and some of his works are part of the Vatican Museums' collection, displayed in the modern art section of the Borgia Apartment. Throughout his career, he successfully blended abstract and figurative elements, leaving a significant mark on 20th-century Italian art.
