Pier Paolo Nudi - Approximations

The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.

This work is part of the "Approsimazioni" cycle, through which artist Pier Paolo Nudi continues his aesthetic exploration. Having now completely detached himself from phenomenal reality, Pier Paolo Nudi turns to sign, material, and gesture. Thus, as we see in this painting, he conceives a complex surface with its own tactile value, and within this field, the artist's gestures are freely expressed. However, not everything is left to instinct, as the presence of the signs is calculated by the artist, as is the distribution of the colors.

Pier Paolo Nudi is a Calabrian artist born in 1971 who lives and works in Rende. He began painting his hometown and the surrounding countryside. He soon distanced himself from this and embarked on a journey of introspection, which he inaugurated with the manifesto "Artistic Introspectionism." In 2008, he was appointed a member of the Accademia Angelica Costantiniana in Rome. Since 2009, Nudi's work has increasingly shifted toward conceptual works, with the creation of the series "Segmenti Multipli," "Multivario," "Evanescenze," "Traslucenze," "Colori Multivariati," "Approssimazioni," "Dimensionale Multiplo 3d," and "Dimensionale Umano." His works are held in various private collections in Italy and abroad.
