Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
Piero Buitoni's artistic style is characterized by a strongly pictorial approach, undoubtedly influenced by a certain post-Impressionist influence. Buitoni's approach is organized in broad, dense brushstrokes, which, arranged on different planes and through subtle tonal transitions, construct objects, highlighting their volumes within a complex surface. Buitoni's landscapes undoubtedly contain a strong rational component, leading him to create extremely balanced and essential compositions, where the purity of the objects' volumes is the primary focus.
Piero Buitoni was born in 1922 to the Biturgia family that founded the pasta factory, and for many years was a high-level manager. Buitoni dedicated the latter part of his life to his great passion, art. He exhibited his works in numerous shows, including the 2009 retrospective in Sansepolcro.
