Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

As we can see from his landscapes, Pietro De Fendis is a painter who demonstrates a profound post-Impressionist maturity. The scenes are all created with color, applied with broad, dense strokes. Objects are skillfully synthesized with a few touches in a two-dimensional space. It is therefore the dense, material color that takes center stage, creating a landscape that tends to be lyrical and expressive rather than naturalistic.

Pietro De Fendis was born in Milan on May 16, 1946, and lives and works in Milan and Brescia. He has held solo exhibitions in various centers and participated in national and international group shows. A globetrotting painter, he gained experience and inspiration through study trips, particularly during sojourns in South Africa, where he left many "extemporaneous" works. He has received awards and recognition: his works are included in collections in Italy and abroad. His "voice" appears in art yearbooks and encyclopedias.
