Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.
This work is a prime example of Pippo Borrello's style. His work is based on an expressionistic fusion of subject and space in a compositional unity characterized by fluid, undulating rhythms. The division of space into a series of sinuous lines is typical of this artist. These same rhythms are reflected in the subjects, which, though figurative, reflect the same formal synthesis. Intense, warm tones prevail in the chromatic palette.
Giuseppe Borrello, known as Pippo, was born in Naples in 1938, but has lived and worked in Verona for thirty years. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and taught painting at the Art School in Verona. He has a long career behind him, exhibiting his work in numerous shows both in Italy and abroad.
