A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.

Proferio's style is based on a naturalistic rendering of his subjects, which he achieves through a refined painting technique. However, his vision of the world is, expressively, more simplified than the sensory data. This simplification points to a certain distancing from pictorialism, instead exalting the forms and volumes of his subjects.
