The work can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. In this case, Prosperi draws inspiration from the ethnic and folkloric charm of distant lands.

In this lithograph, Prosperi demonstrates his openness to a synthetic language in which phenomenal reality is reconstructed through elegant stylization. Reality is thus transformed into a balanced system of lines. The monochromatic composition, formally, is executed with a slender graphic style that accentuates the work's symbolic nature and the immediacy of its fresh execution. The formal definition, however, is further enhanced by a denser hatching in the shading.
