Description of the work
Description of the work
In this work, Raffaele Maietta, whose work is primarily characterized by landscape painting, composes an interior view, resolved as a sort of still life. Indeed, the composition is based on the presentation of a series of objects, which, with Maietta's typical sense of realism, are contextualized in a plausible and truthful context. The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of the representation of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with a naturalistic or photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as was the case, for example, with the Cubist avant-garde or with Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the simple sensory element.
Raffaele Maietta's style, consistent throughout his work, is grounded in a keen sense of color and an immediate, cursive application of color. With just a few touches of color, the painter manages to construct his subjects, ensuring a great immediacy in landscapes or life reproductions. It can therefore be said that Raffaele Maietta's stylistic register undoubtedly stems from a distinct impressionistic influence, but this is taken to the extreme of immediacy and rapid execution. In this way, much like the impressionists, Maietta captures the vibrations of light and atmosphere on objects, yet at the same time exerts a more pronounced synthesis of sensory data, achieving a highly lyrical representation of reality. Maietta's palette reflects this lyrical intimacy with nature and reality, adopting a chromaticism that avoids excess while remaining respectful of the sensory element.
Raffaele Maietta is a painter born in 1930 in Ascoli Piceno. He is primarily focused on landscape painting, which he interprets with a very cursive and immediate technique, akin to post-impressionism. His underlying poetics are naturalism and realism, marked by an intimate lyricism and grounded in a synthesis of sensory information through color.
