Description of the work
Description of the work
Large in format and with refined graphic quality, the volume opens with an essay by Vincenzo Farinella introducing the reader to Raphael's artistic journey. The text traces the Master's biography and the evolution of his art through sources and a well-documented comparison with contemporary artists. The aim is to guide the reader on a journey of rediscovery of this great artist, an experimental and highly modern genius, through a concise and challenging critical essay—both of his life and his works—accompanied by a wealth of color images, as well as an exclusively iconographic section (Il Percorso Artistico) that superbly illustrates his finest and best-known works. The catalogue raisonné of his works contains new attributions and chronologies that have emerged over the last thirty years of scholarship on the artist. Finally, an extensive bibliography is provided, updated with the most recent titles, which also provides insights into the artist's background, including references to sixteenth-century sources and documents useful for reconstructing the artist's biography.
Printed on high-quality paper, bound in full-grain, pit-tanned leather with vegetable dyes and no chemical additives. Gold embellishments and stampings on the front cover and spine. The slipcase is made of the same leather as the book. The four-color process uses a high-definition stochastic screen on 135g Symbol tatami white paper.
Wire-cut plate engraving for the creation of the punch, used for hot gold stamping, taken from the Galatea fresco, painted by Raphael in the loggia of the Villa Farnesina in Rome, circa 1512. The print is four-color with a very high-definition stochastic screen. The volume also includes 12 plates, a selection of drawings on fine Scheufelen phoenixmotion Xantur paper (135 g), exemplifying the artist's various periods of activity.
