Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of this painting certainly has allegorical meanings and can be defined, in some ways, as symbolist precisely because of its allusion to underlying meanings. It is a type of subject that can be traced back to the artistic language of late nineteenth-century painters such as Moreau, Bocklin, or Puvis des Chavannes, who, while using a primarily figurative language, developed intellectually complex iconographies, full of symbolic, allegorical, and, in particular, literary references.
In his paintings, Recker reveals a highly creative Symbolist and Expressionist streak. Iconographically, it's clear that these are subjects that have no claim to representing reality, but rather to convey intellectual messages, full of cultural references. While the interpretation recalls Symbolism, the execution of the painting further suggests Expressionism, due to the remarkable synthesis of the interpretation. The subjects are delineated in a minimalist manner, while the application of color is dynamic.
In his pictorial production Recker alternates more traditional subjects, such as flowers or landscapes, with more refined ones.
