Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting "Red Shoes" presents a scene that combines simple elements with a strong symbolic charge. In the foreground, two small, brightly colored shoes stand out, resting on a surface dotted with spots and colors. Around them are flowers, colorful fabrics, and a structure that resembles a backrest or a frame, from which multicolored ribbons hang. The whole evokes a theatrical or childlike atmosphere, like a childhood memory or a fragment suspended between dream and memory. The style is free and gestural, with rapid and decisive brushstrokes the artist does not seek realism but aims for expressiveness and colour which dominates the whole scene. The contours are soft, almost hinted at, while the chromatic fields are lively and contrasting. The shoes stand out for their bright red and the drips which seem to make them alive or barely used. The coloured ribbons and bright tones create a sense of movement and lightness in contrast with the dark and compact background which makes the main subjects stand out even more. Renato Borsato (Venice, December 14, 1927 – July 5, 2013) was an Italian painter who combined the Venetian figurative tradition with a personal and contemporary vision. His career began in the 1950s, participating in important artistic events such as the Venice Biennale, where he won the Tursi Prize in 1954. He lived and worked in several European cities, including Paris, where he furthered his artistic research. From 1979 to 1986, he was president of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice, actively contributing to the promotion of contemporary art. His works are present in numerous public and private collections, testifying to his importance in the Italian art scene of the twentieth century.
