Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Artist Renato Cenni stands out for his landscape painting, in which he seeks distinctive views, imbued with a distinctive lyricism. Hence his penchant for picturesque views and evocative framing. Formally, this translates into a highly animated and dynamic, expressionistic style, which ensures freshness and immediacy of execution. His brushstrokes are therefore characterized by a remarkably cursive touch, made up of sudden flickers that effectively capture the vibrations of light on objects. The entire composition is imbued with a calm realism and a freshness deriving from the artist's technical prowess.
Renato Cenni was born in Florence in 1906; shortly thereafter he moved to Montecatini and finally to Genoa in 1911, where he passed away in 1977. A well-rounded artist, he was a painter, sculptor, engraver, illustrator, film director, and art critic. His favorite subjects were portraits, female figures, and Parisian scenes. Since 1960, he has regularly participated in various exhibitions, including the one at the Galleria Rotta in Genoa from 1962 to 1972. Other exhibitions were held at the Galleria Kirchgasse in Zurich; and at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, with the exhibition of his work "Il Calvario" in 1978. His works are held at the GAM in Genoa and in numerous public and private collections.
